Bangladesh in Turmoil: In Dhaka, Bangladesh, a large group of protesters vandalized and set fire to the house of Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The incident took place during an online address by Sheikh Mujibur’s daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Videos showed protesters gathered in large numbers outside Sheikh Mujibur’s house, and the house was engulfed in flames.

Addressing party reporters through Facebook Live, Sheikh Hasina said that if Allah has kept me alive despite these attacks, it means I have some important work to do. She also said that if this were not the case, how would I have defeated death again and again? Sheikh Hasina said that the movement going on against her in Bangladesh is actually a conspiracy to assassinate her, and Mohammad Yunus had planned to kill her and her sister.

Protesters target Sheikh Mujibur’s house

The incident took place near Sheikh Mujibur’s house in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area. The house has now been converted into a memorial museum. According to reports, a few thousand protesters gathered here in the evening, and the protest started after a call for a ‘bulldozer procession’ was made on social media. Sheikh Hasina’s address was announced in advance, and the incident took place at that time.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her online address, called on the countrymen to launch a resistance movement against the current regime. Hasina stated, “They lack the strength to dismantle the national flag, the constitution, and the freedom we have secured through the sacrifices of millions of martyrs.” Her statement was a sharp criticism of the current government in Bangladesh and also contained an obvious reference to the rule of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.

Hasina further said, “They can demolish a building, but not history, and they should also remember that history gives its own reaction.”

Sheikh Mujib’s House: A symbol of Bangladesh’s history

Sheikh Mujib’s house holds an important place in Bangladesh’s history. Sheikh Mujib led the freedom struggle from here, and this house has become a symbol of Bangladesh’s freedom struggle. Currently, this house has been converted into the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, which was donated by Hasina and her surviving brother to a trust as public property.

After becoming a museum, this house was visited by foreign leaders and other important persons as per the state protocol. Sheikh Mujib was respected by the people as ‘Bangabandhu,’ i.e., friend of Bengal.
