India’s Triumphant Win Under Rohit’s Captaincy: Hails Players as Real Heroes After 4-Month Drought: Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series by defeating England by 4 wickets in the first ODI played in Nagpur. Captain Rohit Sharma said after the victory in the first ODI that before the Champions Trophy, the Indian team does not want to try to achieve anything special but would like to do everything right as much as possible as they did in the first ODI against England.

India won after 4 months under Rohit’s captaincy

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India has not won in any format of international cricket after four months. The last time India won a Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur was in October 2024 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. After this, India lost three Test matches against New Zealand in their own home under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. At the same time, India did not win a single match in Australia under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Although India won the first Test match in Perth under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah on the Australia tour, Rohit was not the captain in that match.

Chasing a modest target of 249 runs, India went from 221 for three to 235 for six. Barring one small hurdle, India performed almost perfectly and took a 1-0 lead in the series with a four-wicket win. After the match, Rohit Sharma said, Overall, as a team, I just want us to keep making sure that we keep doing the right things as much as possible. There is nothing special that we want to try to achieve.”

Rohit opened his heart after the match

Rohit said, ‘We want to try everything possible in terms of bowling, batting, and things like that. So we were largely successful in doing so today. However, I felt that we should not have lost those wickets in the end. Players are trying to put pressure on the bowlers and such things can happen while doing so.’

Rohit was elated after the win

The Indian captain said that he was satisfied with India’s performance, as the team was playing an ODI match after almost six months. He said, ‘I am very happy because we all knew that we were playing in this format after a long time, so it was important for us to regroup as soon as possible and understand what to do.’

Credit goes to all the bowlers

Rohit said, ‘This is a slightly longer format where you have time to get back into the game. When things start going away from you a bit, it doesn’t mean that they will keep going away. You have to try to make a comeback, and that’s exactly what we did. Credit goes to all the bowlers; everyone contributed to this performance and it was important and necessary for us to continue it.’

Who did Rohit Sharma call the real hero of the victory?

Rohit praised all-rounder Axar Patel, who came in at number five and scored 52 runs in 47 balls. He said, ‘We needed a left-handed player in the middle. We know that England has some spinners who will bowl to left-handed batsmen, and we wanted a left-handed batsman to be on the field.’ Rohit said, ‘In the last few years, we have seen how much Axar has improved as a cricketer, especially with his bat and today we got to see it again. We were under a bit of pressure at that point; we needed a partnership and Gill and Axar batted really well.
